Misconceptions:
- The Mask is white with grey weathering. (Wrong, it looks white because of the white and bluish lighting in the film. The mask is definitely Ivory with a raw sienna wash.)
- The Mask is yellow with a greenish color. (Wrong again, look at number one.)
- The Ghost Chevron is a Part 6 Chevron. (Wrong, it's actually a part 3/4 ghost chevron which is why it's a sharp pointy looking rather than a straight one like the part 6.)
- The Mask has sanded damages all over. (Wrong, that is just something some artist do for some reason, look at the blog for actual sanding points.)
About The Mask
So far from what we know according to the artist David B Miller who worked on the film. The mask was a recast of the part 4 hero mask (aka the part 3 stunt mask). Miller made mention that he made two molds of the mask, a copy of part 4 and another with the ax wound filled in becoming the part 5 mask.

The DMC Mask
Currently being sold by David Miller Creations aka Elmoscave on eBay. The DMC mask seems to be a production mold mask that was either damaged or was purposely made to have some issues in order to warrant off recasters and the such.DMC Mask Issues
- The jawline of the mask is bent in more than in the movie, where it's sticking out a little more.
- The bottom left chin hole, is facing to the left instead of closer to the right by the right hole.
- The top strap hole was moved down more for some odd reason.
- The chin seems to need a bit of a trim as it's longer and wider than the movie.
- The nose hole seems to be facing the wrong way as well.
- The straps used by DMC are not movie accurate.
- The right Chevron is actually a little smaller, sharper and not close to the eyes as it should be.
Notes: The Mask holes are 3/8 in size.
The Colors
The colors of the mask are simple, the mask blank used in the movie seems to be clear with the inside painted a satin blue color, which explains the inside color of the paint chips. The second coat on the inside is a flat black color. This was done according to David Miller so that lights wouldn't shine inside the mask blinding the actors. Now for the front of the mask, Ivory was used as the base color of the mask then a mixture of Burnt Umber and Burnt Sienna for the grime also known as dirt. Then a very thin wash of Raw Sienna for the yellowish tone.
The yellow (Raw Sienna) color has nothing to do with lighting but is the actual colors that are being used and presented here in the images.
The mask should become a white, yellowish cream color if done correctly under the correct white and bluish lighting.

The Straps
In the movie, there seem to be about 3 straps that seem to change according to the scenes.Door Breaker Scene
In this scene, the straps are made up of 2, 3/4 elastic spool bands. The first connects to the sides of the mask while the second one connects into a loose loop over the sides by a small rivet up to the top of the mask.First, we will talk about the side straps, they seem to be folded almost exactly like the straps on the part 3/4 mask.
All while the top strap seems to be folded a little longer while the river seems to set a little above the center of the strap.
You can clearly see with these pictures presented above that, there are no signs of any side strap adjuster. Which makes me believe it's a one-piece.
VS Tractor Scene
After getting up from being knocked down by Regie and the tractor, Roy's straps change; But we will come back to that after this.
As the straps changed, the back either broke and they tied it up, or they had different styled adjusters. This was just something worth noting.
Barn Scene
During the time Roy gets up from the tractor you can see that the straps change. The changes aren't noticeable at first, but the straps are switched from a 3/4 to 1-inch straps. The top still being elastic, while the sides are actually a material known as nylon with stripes two stripes following to each end.
The side stripes are actually no longer one piece, but two with a strap adjuster on the left side.

The rivets colors aren't specified but from what DMC uses and you can see on screen they do seem to be a golden color, they just seem to be weathered. The size of the rivets is 10mm Head, 8mm Post

Chevrons
Door Breaker Scene
The Chevrons are Satin Blue in color, and first, appear to be undamaged at first. The left one is farther from the left eye, while the right one is closer to the eye.
Vs Tractor - Barn Scene
This the scene were the chevron actually becomes and looks damaged. They remain placed in the same spots and area as seen in the picture.
Mask Weathering
I will explain in detail the damages and weathering of the mask. I will start by making the point that there seems to be a nose scuff on the mask even in the "Door Breaker Scene." which seems to go along into the whole film even towards the end.Door Breaker - Barn Scene Grime/Dirt References
These few images are examples of where the grime has been located for the most part.
Notes:
- The ghost chevron on the mask is actually a part 3/4 and not a part 6 chevron as many people tend to place on it.
- The images under this minor header have been modified to show you where the grime seems to be placed.
Ambulance Scene
From the looks of it, the ambulance scene seems to have been shot right after the final hospital scene as you can clearly see the many similarities shown in the picture. You can clearly see the top chip damage by the top strap, the sanded damage on the eyes, the scuff on the nose and the chin damage. If you keep looking you will also notice that the grime is different, almost like the one in the hospital end scene.
Vs Tractor Scene
Here you can clearly see that from the scene a couple things change. The first seems to be the right chevron suddenly being damaged, and the second being nose scuff can be clearly seen. There also seems to be a new grime/dirt on the top left side of the temple vent holes that wasn't there before. A final look would also show that there is no chin damage on the mask in this very scene.
Barn scene
In the barn scene, we can see that the nose damage is more pronounced than in any other scene. If you look closer you can see a bit of that sanded damage on the left eye and some paint chipping on the top of the mask by the top strap. There also seems to be no sign of chin damage till later on in the barn-scene.
Hospital Scene
In the final hospital scene where Tommy puts on the mask to kill pam, you notice a couple of things. You can clearly see that the eyes themselves have sanded scuffing, allowing you to see some of that Ivory base coat on the mask. The other thing is that the chin damage seems to be there as well and seems totally different than the chin damage on the ambulance scene. This leaves me to believe that multiple masks were used instead of one like some seem to believe. The nose scuff seems to have worsened to the point where you can start to see a lot of blue, which tells us the blank used for the mask was clear.
Then the final thing you will notice is that the weathering seems to have also changed making the mask look even dirtier than it was.
